Pet Python Kills Owner To Avoid Medication.

A white board memo “Medicate Diablo”becomes an epitaph for Amanda Black as her husband arrives home to find her dead and the python’s (Diablo) container empty.

The 13-foot-long tiger reticulated python turned on Black while she was trying to squirt a syringe of medication into its mouth. Black was deemed to have died of asphyxiation by neck compression.

The golden rule for handling large snakes is never to do so alone. Black appears to have disregarded this rule and proceeded to medicate the snake knowing that it did not enjoy the experience (according to her husband). She is one of at least 11 people in the United States whose “pet python” has fatally turned on them.

The tiger reticulated python is born about two feet long and rapidly grows up to 10 feet long in the first year. A native of Southeast Asia the tiger reticulated python reaches an average length of 12 to 15 feet but is very strong. Although they are generally considered to be a placid python they should not be kept by inexperienced snake handlers.
