Pets Being Subsidised By Children On Southwest
Southwest joins JetBlue Airways with pet friendly travel. Although Southwest are allowing a small cat or dog on board for a low $75 one way, they are hiking the cost of unaccompanied minors (from free to $25) and overwieght or extra baggage (from $25 to $50).
So from June 17th it is welcome PAWS (Pets Are Welcome on Southwest) and move over kids. Under cutting JetBlue wasn’t Southwest’s only plan, naming their pet fares PAWS also sounds a lot like the the JetBlue JetPaws airfares.
Although JetBlue Airways charge $100 each way for their pet seats, they do offer frequent-flier points which is something Southwest Airlines do not do.
So it is good news for pets – allowed to travel upfront and not allowed to travel in the cargo hold – but not so good for kids and baggage who are subsidising the pet fares.
How do you feel about the new form of pet travel?
