Christmas Cheer Fades For Pets
Once again shelters have seen an influx of present pets abandoned soon after Christmas. Back in the real world the daily hassle of having a new member of the family has taken its toll.
What seemed like a cute and cuddly present turns out to be whining, mess making, nuisance. The kitten went to the bathroom on the carpet, the cute little puppy chewed the leather settee.
There is more to owning a pet than the fanciful idea that many people have. Unfortunately it is the animals that suffer for our lack of thinking and proper research.
Cocoa was adopted on a couple of weeks before Christmas only to be returned with a broken leg a couple of weeks after Christmas. They say the other dogs played too rough.
The Christmas pet returns have been accentuated with the poor economic state. Families have been forced to part with pets that have been in the family for years. This is especially true of high maintenance animals like horses.
Don’t let your pets be the victims as this holiday season closes.
