Pedigree dog breeders forced to clean up act.
It has long been known that the traits that many pedigree dog breeds pursue are in fact harmful to the health of the dogs.
Pekingese dogs, for example, suffer breathing problems because breeders have been selectively breeding flatter and flatter faces. Other popular breeds of dogs suffer such ailments as blindness, epilepsy, heart disease, and cancer.
A BBC exposé of the problems animals are facing because of fanatical inbreeding programs has led to the Kennel Club stepping in and imposing new breeding standards. They have also called on the Government to give them powers to address breeders who aren’t making dog health their top priority.
In the meantime the BBC is reviewing its long standing association with the Crufts dog show, and the RSPCA and other charities are also withdrawing from the show.

It is one thing to starve ourselves, wear clothes that leave us deformed, and mutilate our bodies, but our pets have no choice. We inbreed them to the point of deformity and they have no say.
The times are a changing and it can only be for the better.
