Animal Character Matching?
I am sure you have heard of people taking character tests, but what about pets taking character tests?
The latest initiative from the ASPCA is a Meet Your Match™ program designed to cut down on the number of animals that get returned to shelters.
Delving beyond the cute little furry face that greets you on first impression, the test takes into consideration personality and habits. Matching them with tests taken by potential pet adopters.
The first step in the process for the pet is to go through an initial test where they are screened for behavior suitable for adoption. Then go through the full program that sorts them into colors.
Each color encompasses a range of personality traits (you might find yourself in on of these). The canine colors include such personalities as “Couch Potatoes” (don’t like walking dogs?) or “Go-Getter” on the other extreme and a few in between.
Cats also have a range of interesting colors and personalities. There are the adorable “purple” kittens who just love a good smooch. If you prefer more of a companion who will follow you everywhere you will be matched with the “Orange” cats. But for those who live on the wild side, your kitten will definitely come in “Green.”
You do not escape the color code either. After answering 19 profiling questions you will be “colored” according to your preferences and lifestyles. Your color will be reflected on your guest pass so you know which pets will be potential life mates.
As strange as this system may seem to some, the ASPCA report a 40- to 45-percent increase in adoptions and a 45- to 50-percent decrease in returns and euthanasia.
So when shopping for your family pet you no longer have to do it color blind (although color blindness may be a slight handicap?).
What is your true color? It might be worth taking a trip to your local ASPCA just to find out!
