This is a good reminder for chihuahua owners and potential future owners. They are cute, but they are also a very high maintenance dog. Mine love to be in my gardening blog, or I just include them any chance I get… they are a great breed for the right owner. nice article. Currently in the news there are a lot of chihuahuas at the shelters, we need to get the word out about caring for them so that so many are not returned. thank you.

i think the dog should be put down. If it bites once it’ll do it again. it is very sad for the child and the dog but i would’nt take that kind of chance again.

Pit bulls have certainly had a bad rap. I have never owned one myself to know what they are like as pets.

We did have a boxer when I was a kid, and it was the biggest softee, although most people wouldn’t go anywhere near him because he looked so mean.

you know ppl in this world need to STOP! AND I MEAN NOW wat in the world did these animals do to these ppl i thik it makes no scence god put these pitbuls in this world for ppl to love NOT TO FIGHT!!! if we alll try to help out with these pitbuls we can make a change i pry every nite ppl stop and love the pitbuls i hope there is a big change !!!

Hi Steve – liver damage is more likely to be caused by what your dog eats than how much (although long term over-feeding may well increase the risk of liver damage).

If you suspect your dog has liver problems it is best to get them to a vet right away. The more likely cause of liver damage in dogs are bacterial infections or other health related issues. It is also a genetically transferable weakness.

i used to want a Burmese python so bad, but after hearing of all these children that are being killed i say let the zoo handle these animals because i sure don’t want one now! this is a sad thing to have to think about, and hope everyone can start taking precautions to stop this from happening anymore

Thanks for your comments Patricia. I am not sure how I feel about breed specific legislation. Being a country boy I am not a fan of dogs, especially big dogs, living in urban areas. I have seen too many cases of dogs treated poorly or living substandard lives in such environments.

It’s horrible to read of such things but my personal feeling is that we must respect the evolution of the culture of others. Apparently in Tonga the residents are taking care of the situation and evolving on their own just as our culture has. The important thing is that the dog was killed humanely and evidently was not going to go to waste in their minds.

As regards the Rottweiler puppies, I am completely against breed specific legislation. This is motivated out of pure fear and ignorance. As animal lovers must continue to educate the public as to breeds, their traits, etc and legislate against dog fighting,etc. ImTiredOf has created a great bracelet specifically for helping with this cause.
